Blue Merrick, screenwriter and demo reel writer

Introduction

My name is Blue Merrick and I have been working professionally in the writing industry for more than eight years. As a screenwriter, I'm naturally intrigued by the moments that reveal who a character truly is.

That's the philosophy I bring to every demo reel scene I write. Rather than creating generic dialogue or expecting an actor to rifle through scenes thousands of actors have wrung dry of audition value, I work with each actor to develop original material that feels emotionally honest, memorable, and tailored specifically to the stories they want to tell.

My goal is to give you more than a scene — I want to give you a performance you're excited to bring to life, and one that will make your reel stand out from the crowd.

The best scenes don't just give actors something to say — they give them a character worth becoming.

A Taste

Dialogue that sounds like a person, not a sample.

A demo reel scene has ninety seconds to convince someone you're worth watching. That only happens when the words underneath the performance are specific — when they could only belong to this character, in this room, on this night.

INT. KITCHEN — NIGHT

She hasn't turned the overhead light on. It's easier in the dark.

MARA

(not looking up)

You can stop doing that.

DANNY

Doing what?

MARA

Waiting for me to be okay so you can leave.

A long beat. He sits down instead.
